Betsey-Mania at New York’s Fashion Week

Fashion designer Betsey Johnson has been pushing that envelope since the late 1960s. The 69-year-old cool chick offers the world ultra cool and hip clothes. However, her fall collection at New York’s Fashion Week gave us a glimpse of something else – a mod rocker 1960s-inspired twist on today’s most sought-after looks.

Step back into the swinging sixties and that rebellious mod scene with Betsey’s latest collection. The sexy, girly looks she is known for weren’t far away, but Johnson gave us something a little different this time around – pretty floral dresses, simple yet sweet blouses and houndstooth trousers.

We also caught a glimpse of pretty shift dresses over turtlenecks, high-waisted trousers, and plenty of pea coats. We also got classic Betsey with sequined hot pants, leather gloves and bold colours.

Clearly the line was inspired by days gone by, as the soundtrack would have us believe. Songs by the likes of the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles and more rocked the house as models strutted their stuff. All with sleek and chic make-up and stick-straight hair, every model really worked her outfit. The hairstyles could only have been achieved with the help of a styler – we wonder if they used GHD straighteners at the show?

One thing is for sure: Betsey still has it. At the end of the show she gave the audience her infamous cartwheel down the runway, finishing it off with the perfect splits! How many grandmothers do you know that can do that?
